While no two services at SAPC are exactly alike, below is a sample of what you can expect during our time of Worship.
THE 22ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
THE PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP I’m not here to judge your dogged climb to the top of the Best-Stressed List. I won’t stand in your way if you insist on depriving yourself of sleep, neglecting your friends, and wolfing down your breakfast half-chewed as you speed towards work. While that’s not my personal model of success, I understand that for some of you it’s kind of fun, as well as a way to escape the dangers of civilization’s sanitized comforts. But hear me out on this idea. Just as on some occasions the best battle tactic is a strategic retreat, I believe your ambitions would be best served now by hanging out and wasting time. – Anonymous

Amen.

THE MUSICAL RESPONSE
THE READING & PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL
THE THOUGHT FOR SILENT REFLECTION In time, the things we have collected: our wealth, our fame, and our power: do not matter quite as much. In time, our wins and our losses, our grudges, resentments, and jealousies: do not matter quite as much. Our gen-der and our skin color, even our beauty and our brilliance: do not matter quite as much. What does matter, is not what we have bought, but what we have built. What does matter, is not what we have learned, but what we have taught. What does matter, is not our success, but the success of those we have helped.
It is whether our integrity and compassion, have encouraged others to have integrity and compassion … this is what matters! Our life is a matter of choice; each day, each hour, may we choose a life that matters. – C. F. Sandy Pofahl (slightly edited)
*THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We believe in God . . . who tells us — that nothing that goes in us can defile us.
We believe in the Christ . . . who invites us to live humbly from our hearts.
We believe in the Holy Spirit . . . who empowers us to make choices for life.
This we believe! Amen.
