At the 2012 General Assembly, after finding my way through the maze of rooms of people gathering for different morning events, I attended a Women’s Breakfast I had seen on the schedule.
Of course, I was late, but fortunately in time to hear Veeda Gil address this gathering with poise, grace, and passion.
Veeda’s address was prior to the rise of the Islamic state. It was prior to many of the horrors that we have witnessed in these last many years, and yet, her focus was and is on what all those terrible things have brought to the forefront of our attention:
We need to heal the deep divides that allow violent conflict to become a way of life.
We need to nurture and educate all of our children that they may grow into a world that provides them opportunity to live a full lives.
We need to protect those that cannot protect themselves – in particular, women and children who are the most vulnerable to the violence of those that see them as nothing more than either objects, or potential profit.
It is with these concerns on our hearts, that SAPC is so pleased to be able to host Veeda (Javaid) Gil, Executive Director of Presbyterian Education Board.
Veeda will be making a presentation on Friday, July 24th,, from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The presentation will be open to the public, and SAPC will be providing wine and cheese.
On Sunday, July 26th, Veeda will preach for SAPC, after which SAPC will provide lunch during social hour.
We all want a more peaceful world.
This, I believe, is one place we can begin to help make that happen.
In the Hope of Christ,
This summer, come and try your hand at ringing handbells!
This three week exploration is a chance to learn basic ringing technique, become familiar with reading a handbell part, and experience making music in an ensemble. Total beginners are absolutely welcome! Introduction to Handbells will take place on Tuesdays June 16, June 23, and June 30, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in Cumberland Hall. Please contact Luba to let her know that you will be attending!
If you are one who has been connected to SAPC for a while, you will have noticed that there has been a little change to the website.
We are currently in the process of
updating overhauling the site with a soft launch in mid-May and hope to be completely done with the initial work by mid-June
This is a group effort, so we would appreciate your feedback, affirmations, concerns, etc. If you would like to share, please contact Bruce Reyes-Chow, Parish Associate, who is handling the process.
And no, we didn’t get rid of The Gong.

For those who receive semi-regular notes from Pastor Jeff with musing on faith, inspiring quotes, and/or community happenings, be sure not to miss any notes and sign-up for his mailing list.
With this mailing list, SAPC is testing out the use of an electronic mailing list service, so if you have any feedback, please let us know how this goes.
