Sunday worship is back in-person at 10 AM every Sunday. We wanted to let you know the safety protocols in place and what to expect at our in-person gatherings. We hope you will feel the warmth and care of the community as we continue to take measures to support the health and safety of one another.
What to expect at in-person worship
Arriving: Upon arriving at the church, you will be greeted with a sign-in sheet, and hand sanitizer. Based on current guidance, we will not take temperatures.
Vaccinations: All employees are required to be vaccinated or have weekly testing. We encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated as well.
Masks: Masks will be required, as per SF requirements, and will be provided if you don’t have one. All congregants (over 2 years old) will remain masked while in the building.
Ventilation: We have reviewed ventilation with doors and windows remaining open to provide a cross draft, so bring a sweater or jacket!
Social Distance: The pews will be marked with 3 foot intervals for space between individuals and family groups. Those who prefer more physical distance have the option to sit in the balcony.
Speaking and singing: Those leading speaking parts of worship (liturgists/preachers/celebrants) may remove their masks while speaking. They will be 3 feet apart and 6-12 feet away from the congregation. Everyone may sing or hum while masked.
Passing the Peace: We will use a peace bow to pass the peace, remaining in our pew and bowing to those in pews before and behind us.
Offering: We encourage donations to be made electronically or by placing them in offering plates in the back of the sanctuary.
Communion: Celebrants will sanitize their hands before the liturgy of the Eucharist. To receive communion, please gather in a circle around the perimeter of the sanctuary. A piece of bread will be placed in your open hands and you will have the option of dipping the bread in the cup, if you so choose. You are invited to briefly lower your mask to eat the communion elements, and then to replace your mask again.
Circle and Three-fold Amen: We will not hold hands (family members excepted), but will raise our hands during the last Amen.
Virtual Options: Our primary virtual worship option will continue to be audio recordings, which will be made available following live worship. For special services (e.g. baptisms and ordinations), a Zoom option will also be available.
Children & Families
Children are invited to remain with their families during worship. The Children’s Ministry Team will be hosting monthly gatherings for families in Golden Gate Park on the third Sunday of each month.
For now, we will not be having a formal Social Hour after the service. Instead, we invite those who wish to have some time of fellowship to do so outside.
This all seems like a lot but we hope you will all feel safe and welcomed as we return to our beloved church!
