to listen for God’s word for us today.
to model the radically inclusive welcome of God.
to tend the Holy in ourselves, one another, and creation.
to be the Christ in the world.

The Mission of Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church is:

Our community is committed to justice, compassion, and dignity for all persons.

What we believe…

Knowing that no one church has 100% agreement about all things, below are just a few things that we believe as part of our larger denomination, the Presbyterian Church (USA) and as Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church, a particular congregation here in San Francisco.

We strive to be a welcoming and hospitable community where all people are welcome. We are a community that values the sacredness of life. We honor diversity. We listen for God’s call. We challenge and nurture each person’s journey toward the justice of Christ, the reconciliation of the Spirit, and the wholeness of God. It is from this understanding that we live our faith in the world.

We are…

a Christian Community — seeking to know the Christ as our friend, teacher, and guide.

a Trinitarian Community — seeking to live a life in communion with the Mystery of God, the presence of Christ, and the indwelling power of the Spirit.

a Eucharistic Community — where our response to life is one of thanksgiving. At the table we celebrate God’s abundant love in all its variety and difference, affirming the truth that our unity is not found in conformity, but in our diversity.

a Contemplative Community — striving to be attentive to God’s invitations both corporately and individually. We believe it is important to balance a personal spirituality with a communal one. This empowers us to be about doing justice, loving kindness, and striving to walk humbly with our God.

an Inclusive Community — where people of faith and no faith are welcome regardless of gender, worldly condition, race, age, physical ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, political party, educational achievements, or financial resources.
